Introduction
When you think of Mardis Gras, you think of a lot of wild things going on. Blue Marine by Pierre Cardine was created in 1986 to embody Mardis Gras. This may be a tough thing to do, but this fragrance really does it. Be prepared, there’s a lot going on.
About the scent
The fragrance review of this product starts with a first impression of the outside. This perfume is encased in the most bizarre shaped bottle. It looks more like the ball in Times Square dropped on New Year’s than a cologne bottle. This is definitely an unusual beginning to the experience.
Mardis Gras is a wild time with a lot going on. And this cologne is the same. We start out with a mix of Artemisia with greens, bergamot and spices. It wouldn’t be New Orleans without spices. The first tone adds sage and basil to the mix for a sort of herbal impression that makes you think you have plunged into a unique culture. You have, after all.
The second tone of this cologne is even more complicated than the first. There are spices, flowers, and woods all in one layer. You will encounter jasmine, geranium and carnation for a floral scent. In addition to that is a woody cedar scent. And it’s all finished off with spicy cinnamon. The finish of this is yet another complicated combination. You encounter rich, deep leather as well as amber and labdanum.
The bottom line
Mardis is a crazy mix of fun, culture, and insanity. And that is exactly what Blue Marine by Pierre Cardine. The scent evokes so many parts of Mardis Gras, and the name evokes the sea that New Orleans sits right on. All of this is in a crazy bottle, too. How much fun is that.
