Midnight in Paris for Men by Van Cleef & Arpels; that’s quite a mouthful. The name sort of evokes a great, romantic sort of feel for a men’s cologne. And this lovely, almost fantasy fragrance lives up to the mouthful. It’s dark and mysterious – much like Paris.
About the scent
The bottle is themed with the cologne and tells us there will be a sense of mystery and romance in the fragrance review of this particular cologne. It is a dark blue round shape with a scattering of silvery stars all over it. This cologne breaks all the rules.
Citrus is a common initial tone of colognes and perfumes because it is sort of light and non-aggressive. We get citrus here, but citrus is not by itself. Holly and rosemary are added for a natural, floral sort of feeling. And there is something a little deeper and more appealing. After all, this perfume can’t start out light and fun. Leather is added to instantly draw you in to the depth and mystery of this cologne.
Styrax, tea and lily of the valley are combined in the middle tones to soften the upper tones and base tones as well. This is a lighter hint, but is easily passed over from the top tones to the base tones.
Tonka bean, almond and benzoin add the perfect sweet base to this cologne. But it wouldn’t be a great fragrance if it didn’t go out with a bang. And this bang comes in the form of something very unusual for a perfume or cologne in general – incense. Now, that’s a twist.
The bottom line
Midnight in Paris is all drama, mystery, and darkness surrounded by great, appealing tones that add a sort of sensuality. This cologne definitely lives up to the name. And it does so in only the way Paris could boast.
